Teachers are rarely paid what they’re worth. Recognizing that, many businesses offer discounts to teachers year–round. Here’s a list of discounts for teachers – on electronics, school supplies, clothing, travel, publications and more.
Though Apple isn’t known for great price breaks for the general public, the company does offer varying discounts, save up to $200 on a new Mac, and up to $20 on a new iPad.
Lenovo’s Academic Purchase Program helps teachers and students find discount laptops. Check the site for your state and school to see what’s available.
Dell‘s purchase program offers discounts to teachers whose schools belong to the program.
The Adobe Education Store offers varying teacher and student discounts.
Cellphone providers (Sprint, AT&T, Verizon) give varying teacher discounts; check with individual providers.
Office supplies, books and newspapers
Virtually all office supply stores offer teacher discounts. Staples‘ lets teachers earn 5 percent back on purchases; 10 percent on teaching and art supplies. Office Depot offers 20% off on qualifying purchases plus points and other perks; Office Max gives $10 in rewards for every $75 spent and $2 in rewards for every recycled ink and toner cartridge.
Barnes & Noble has an Educator Program that gives teachers 20% off the publisher’s list price on all purchases for classroom use and up to 25% off the publisher’s list price during Educator Appreciation Days.
Book Warehouse offers a 15% break on already-discounted prices.
Half-Price Books gives teachers 10% off with its Educator’s Discount Card.
Check the Scholastic Teacher Store for various discounts.
Teachers can get a New York Times digital subscription for 99 cents for four weeks, with a 50% discount thereafter. The subscription gives unlimited online access plus a smartphone app.
Crafts and organizing products
JoAnn’s Teacher Rewards card (sign-up necessary) gives 15% off every purchase.
Michaels also gives 15% off purchases (with some exclusions).
AC Moore‘s rewards program lets you rack up points and reward certificates based on purchases.
At the Container Store, teachers can buy discounted products to organize crafts and other materials. Sign up to receive offers by email.
Clothing and shoes
Lots of clothing stores have teacher-discount programs (generally only in store, with proper ID).
Banana Republic gives 15% off on full-price merchandise. Check the store nearest you and call 1-888-BR-STYLE with questions.
Coldwater Creek offers 15% discounts on merchandise and on gift cards (in store only).
Loft‘s new website says the company loves teachers, and offers 15% discounts and other perks when you sign up.
The Limited gives you 15% off on all purchases; the discount cannot be combined with other coupons.
Talbots offers 15% discounts on full-price merchandise (not valid at Talbots outlets or clearance stores).
J. Jill discounts full-price merchandise by 15% and also runs special promotions from time to time.
J.Crew offers teachers and students (with ID) a 15% in-store discount.
Eddie Bauer offers 15% discounts at some stores with valid teacher ID.
Aerosoles continues to offer 15% discounts on shoes priced $39.99 and more.
Karen Kane, which sells perfect “teacher clothes” for women that would also be cute to wear out after work, offers a 20% discount. You need to sign up and prove your affiliation.
Attractions and travel
STA Travel is not just for student deals. Head to the site for discounted fares on select flights, rental cars, and more. You might want to consider purchasing The International Teacher Identity Card (ITIC) from STA for $25 since it gives you access to travel discounts, as well as retailer savings.
Many museums, zoos and attractions (like the Mark Twain home in Hannibal, Missouri, and the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida) offer teacher discounts.
At some venues, like the Art Institute of Chicago, teachers can receive complimentary admission with a valid educator ID.

Vacations to Go offers special teacher discounts on select cruise sailings.
SeaWorld® Orlando offers the Florida Teacher Card to all active and certified K-12 Florida grade school teachers. It is valid for unlimited admission to the park through December 31, 2016.
Simarly, Legoland gives one year of free admission with a Florida Teacher Pass. At the California Legoland, teachers enter the park for free on select Teacher Appreciation Days.
Other teacher discounts and grants
A number of insurance companies give discounts to teachers. Plymouth Rock, for example, which has discounts for New Jersey teachers, also gives Tow-N-Go roadside assistance, School Zone Zero Deductibles and other benefits. Check the carriers in your state to see what discounts/benefits may be available.
Farmers Insurance is another insurance company offering discounts for approved business and professional groups, including teachers.
Passionate teachers with big ideas and small budgets should explore Donors Choose. This popular website allows teachers to present a classroom idea, lay out a budget and watch as big-hearted benefactors give funds to help support the goal. Projects can range from science and math to art and everything in between.
TeacherLists.com is another site that allow teachers to post a wishlist of supplies they need for their classrooms. Parents or other donors can pledge to donate right online.
